The Weekly Diatribe…

Aug. 29, 2010 - Jak se maj!!! Howdy everyone! Welcome back! It’s been a LONG LONG time! For the first time that I can remember, I have missed TWO updates in a row. I missed the first one for good reason... Work! I was out of town... But last week was a little more "self inflicted"... Yeah, I was too tired last Monday... I was busy too, getting tired... More on that later...

I'm actually starting this on Saturday night as I am pretty sure I have a lot to cover and catch up on... We will see... So what is up?

Well, let’s start off with missing the update two weeks ago. I spent Monday and Tuesday down in sunny downtown Chi-Town. It turned out to be a pretty good trip. None of those 18 hour days but we still got a lot accomplished with a new client. Didn't party or anything, but had a nice meal and kinda enjoyed it. It was actually nice just to work with one client all day and not have 5 lined up waiting for my time. So that was good...

That Friday I spent most of the day in Milwaukee with another client, but got back into Green Bay in time for the BIG STORM! I tell you, that is about as hard a rain as I have ever seen. I just got to the office when the deluge started. I contemplated sitting it out in my truck, but I knew from the weather report it could be a while, so I parked close to the door and made a dash. WOW! 10 steps on a run and I STILL got soaked. Amazing... After about 10 minutes our parking lot, which is actually on a kind of slope, was completely flooded with about six inches of running water. But it cleared out soon... Denville got pounded a little more, with flooded streets and some down trees, but nothing terrible.

Nothing like Greenleaf and Butte Des Morts got it... And we all know who lives in downtown Butte Des Morts right? Mr. SEC-W/M... Saturday morning the Mayor of Denville called and asked if I would take a run down to the SEC-M/W's place as he was out of town and his buddy called and said his power was out and his place was a mess. So we drove down and it wasn't as bad as we were worried it would be. Branches and stuff down and a bit of a mess in the yard, but no real damage other than the power line came down. When we arrive the electrician was actually there working on it and was soon met by the WPS guys, so his power was restored pretty quickly and we didn't even have to haul back his frozen food. Nice... So the storm was definitely a little exciting for us...

On to Sunday... Last Sunday... It was the Annual Holy Trinity Church Meeting and Picnic. We all know what that means... I had every intention of behaving, really I did, but I still ended up at the tavern afterward and pretty "tired" the next day. Oh well... It was a great time for sure. Great people out there and its fun to get out with them at least once a year... The FDA Chairman made a REALLY awesome batch of booyah that was appreciated by all. Another "Top 5" batch... It was so good I didn't even get any to bring home, at least I don't think I did... (But I did get some awesome Klika German Potato Salad, so that made up for it...)

Speaking of church booyah, the linked parishes in the area are having a picnic in September and the FDA Chair has been chosen to represent Holy Trinity. Rumor also has it that the FM has somehow been chosen to represent one of the other churches... Oh man... If there's another contest, how in the world is the FM gonna rig a CHURCH vote, because that is the ONLY way his Belgian swill could POSSIBLE compete with Ma Nelson's famous Bohemian recipe... We will see what dastardly depths he sinks too this time...

Really bad news on the bike... Let's see, two weeks ago I took it out for a short spin... Just a ten miler or so, but at around mile 5 the clutch went caplooey... (That's a technical term) The clutch lever got real soft, so on the way home I was anticipating a cable issue... But I got home and the cable was fine... OH! OH! So I got a hold of my bike mechanic and described the issue and he said he'd take a look... So I drove it out there, speed shifting it as I had little or no clutch, and dropped it off. So this past Monday he called with good news. "Must have been a linkage issue" as he saw no issues and when he put it back together it was fine... AWESOME! So I also had him change my fork fluid, which was a good thing as he said it was probably still the original factory stuff. Picked it up Monday night and drove it home... Good right? Wrong...

It was a little funky on the way home from the shop, pulling a little a stop signs, and I had a dickens of a time getting it into neutral when I got it in the garage, but I figured it just had to get used to being on the road again. So I took it for a spin on Wednesday, and it was right back to where I was... Broken!  Only weird thing was it would get better after shifting up to 4th or 5th gear, and then worse after downshifting... Anyway, called the mechanic and he's going to have to rip it completely apart this time... So I dropped it off this morning (Saturday) with a VERY long face... :-(

Oh course; with my bike in the shop, I get a call from Captain Chuck tonight. He's home and he and Zumbo were gonna get on their bikes and go for a ride... I almost cried... That would have been AWESOME!!! It was such a beautiful day today, plus it would have been great to get out on the road and show those two Harley drivers a thing or two. Well, I could show them after I caught up to them, but you know what I mean... Well, next time guys FOR SURE!!!

Yeah, it was sure a beautiful day, and it really WOULD have been a great day for a ride... But instead I painted... YUCK!!! You all know how much I hate to paint... If I don't behave and get sent to hell, I have no doubt my punishment will be to paint the place over and over and over... But, I have been putting this off for a while, so I got to it. The house and the garage service doors had some pretty bad spots here and there that were peeling, and they weren't painting themselves, so I got 'er done. Took about four hours, but it does look a lot nicer now...

Speaking of crappy jobs... I need to track down The President one of these days and find out if he's taken care of that ant problem of his... Maybe tomorrow I'll swing over and get an update... That's the plan... I'll sign off for now and finish this up tomorrow night!

Welcome to Sunday... Another good day, but pretty freaken hot!

Spent some time today after church getting my wood shed cleaned up and ready for more wood as well as getting some kindling sawed up. I had planned on heading out to Zumbo's to make some more wood, but it was just too hot out there. Moving the wood around and making the kindling really wasn't very hard work, but I was still drenched in sweat, so I figured I might as well skip the heat and also avoid the mosquitoes... I probably only have a face cord of wood cut so far, so I really need to get cracken on that front. Maybe I'll get some done this week... Hot early in the week but supposed to be better after Wednesday...

Sure missed the bike today... Would have been nice to get out there... I hope she's OK... :-)

I gave The President a call today, but he was pretty busy... A local establishment is closing down and they needed help "cleaning out the coolers", so Mr. President, being the fine upstanding civil servant that he is, donated his time... What a guy... I did get a few minutes of his time though, and he's "busier than a one armed paper hanger", so we're not sure when we can even get together to TALK about making wood... But as always, we'll get 'er done...

Speaking of making wood, the SEC-Transportation spent the weekend up north camping and stopped at the little cabin on A for some wood. Checked out the place and one of his buddies in interested in helping us make some wood. EXCELLENT!!! Wait till he experiences his fist cocktail hour at the cabin, and we'll see how enthused he is after that...

I think the whole "Why you're fat" thing has run its course... I'm sure you know why, plus I'm not getting any more updated pictures, so enough of that...

In its place, in honor of The President's many amazing feats of emergency repairs, from the geniuses at thereIfixedit.org, I bring you this new feature...

There! It's Fixed!

Hmmm... I can't even imagine what type of thought process would result in that...  But yeah, Bob would do that...

In honor of the fine folks at Holy Trinity parish that seem to lead me astray once a year, I bring you this week's schedule...

30 Aga-Ou Festival (Voodoo). Top notch voodoo elephant festival. Voodoo Spiced Rum.

31 Snake Dance Festival (Hopi). Best performed after falling off a barstool. King Cobra Malt Liquor.

1 Labor Day. “A person can work up a mean mean thirst after a hard day of nothin’ much.” —Replacements.
Working Man’s Zinfandel
2 oz tequila
2 oz scotch
1 oz cinnamon schnapps
1 oz peach schnapps
Sprite
Mix liquor with ice, top with Sprite.

2 World War II ends (1945). Drunks save the free world from tyrannical teetotaler.
Victory Collins
1 1/2 oz Vodka
3 oz lemon juice
3 oz grape juice, unsweetened
1 tsp powdered sugar
1 slice orange
Shake with ice, strain into a Collins glass over ice cubes. Garnish with orange slice.

3 Lost Day. Good day to start a bender. Bottle of rye.

4 Looking For the Boundaries Day (Cuchumatan Indians, Guatemala Highlands). Test the boundaries of last call. Mescal.

5 On the Road published. Barhop like Cassady and Kerouac. Cheap beer.

Next Sunday is "Cheap Beer Day"! Do they even MAKE cheap beer any more? I mean sure, some beer is cheaper than others, but mostly the cheap stuff is just watered down versions of the high test stuff... What happened to the good old days of Kingsbury, Red White and Blue, Huber, and God forbid, GRAIN BELT!!! Another great era in American history gone forever... :-(

If you notice the schedule, it shows us that ITS FREAKEN SEPTEMBER on Wednesday!!! Holy cow... Where did the summer go? Well, it was a pretty long summer and warm enough, but not incredibly terrible... Lots of rain, but really not any of those extended 5 straight days of rain... It would just rain REALLY hard and get back to sunshine... So overall, it was a good summer, but hard to see it go...

Pretty strange too, with my 2 week hiatus, I haven't even MENTIONED football, and we're almost to the last pre-season game for the mighty Packers... Wow... Well, they sure looked good on Thursday night, that's for sure. That offense looks pretty tough, but they did last preseason too, and then they stunk it up the first 6 weeks of the season. I expect more of the same, but an overall good year... Badgers kick it off Saturday too, so that should be cool as they are predicted to do well also. But we all know what happens when the Badgers are predicted to do well... They stink... Also my prediction... and the mighty Denville gridirons? Well, they already proved they stink last Friday getting shelled by Kewauneeeee...

Another update... Deer season is just around the corner, and last weekend I ordered a spare antlerless tag for around The President's cabin. Yeah, it’s pretty doubtful we'd use it, but I always think it’s best to have one "just in case"... If you're interested, there's more available... They must be selling two for every deer in that unit...

Pretty busy week ahead again work-wise, but that's about it... Holiday weekend coming up, which is a cool thing as I could use an extra day off... Other than that, I have nothing else...

Overall, I'd say that's an OK update, even if I do say so myself... First time it’s really taken me two days, so that's a first... But don't expect it again...

Oh wait, one more... I saw this, and again, its maybe a little PG-13ish, but who cares... I think it’s HILARIOUS!!!

With that, I'll sign off... As always, I'll leave with some words of wisdom for our junior members...

"We hope that, when the insects take over the world, they will remember with gratitude how we took them along on all our picnics." ~Bill Vaughan

If that picture is any indication of what those insects do on our picnics, I'm eating at McDon's from now on...

As Red would say, "Keep your stick on the ice"!
