June 23, 2008

June 23, 2008 - Jak se maj!!! How's everyone doing? Its been quite a while, hasn't it? This whole idea of getting updates done on "my time" hasn't been going so well. My on-site contracting job is pretty much clear cut 8-5, so I don't have time then... So its the weekends, and they have been busy... Well, not really, but the site has slid on the priority list... So its Monday night, and here's an update... Don't expect much...

Work has been busy... Not the crazy type busy, just time consuming. This whole consulting gig isn't all that much fun, but it'll pay the bills until better stuff comes along... Can't complain, as it was a whole lot worse before...

Been spending time on the bike, and that's been fun. The old "pain in the butt" cyst is gone, so I can cruise as much as I have time for. Over the weekend I took a cruise to the lakeshore and another along the Fox. In between rain showers of course... I think this has been the best purchase I've made in quite some time... Hope it stays running...

Just got one from Jack/Ass... Its for the Sturgeon General... An oldie but a goodie!

The doctor said, "Bill, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration. You have a very rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles."

Bill was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He had no choice but to go under the knife.

When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself. As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person.

He could make a new beginning and start a new life. He saw a men's clothing store and thought, "That's what I need... a new suit." He entered the shop and told the salesman, "I'd like a new suit."

The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, "Let's see.. size 44 long."

Bill laughed, "That's right, how did you know?"

"Been in the business 60 years!" the tailor said.

Bill tried on the suit. It fit perfectly. As Bill admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, "How about a new shirt?"

Bill thought for a moment and then said, "Sure."

The salesman eyed Bill and said, "Let's see 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck."

Bill was surprised, "That's right, how did you know?"

"Been in the business 60 years!"

Bill tried on the shirt and it fit perfectly. Bill walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, "How about some new underwear?"

Bill thought for a moment and said, "Sure."

The salesman said, "Let's see... size 36."

Bill laughed, "Ah ha! I got you; I've worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old."

The salesman shook his head, frowning, "You can't wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache."

New suit - $400
New shirt - $36
New underwear - $6
Second Opinion - PRICELESS

The Sturgeon General should keep that in mind!!!!

Spent Father's Day up at Kingsbury Kottage!!! Had a great time, although a little different than the Fish Camp weekend. The boys sure have a nice place up there! Hopefully we'll find some time some day to spend on the water and find out if they have any fish up there...

Which brings us to this week's schedule... Its been a while since I posted, so you better get on this right away!!!

23 St. Agrippina Day. Patron saint against evil spirits, leprosy and thunder. Grappa.

24 Feast of the Sun (Aztec). Drink ‘til the sun comes up. Sol Cervesa.

25 Anniversary of Custer’s Last Stand (1876). Make your own stand at the bar.
Last Stand
1/2 oz ouzo
1/2 oz vodka
6 drops Tabasco Sauce
Mix and shoot.

26 Bicycle patented (1819). “Scotch needs water like a fish needs a bicycle.”—W.C. Fields. Fat Tire.

27 Death of Julian the Blessed Festival (Roman). Jules, baby! We never even knew ya, kid! Strega.

28 Paul Bunyan Day. Imagine that poor bastard’s bar tabs. Beer, straight from the pitcher.

29 St. Peter’s Day. Patron saint of clockmakers, fishermen, Russia; against fever, foot trouble and wolves. Red Wolf Red Ale.

30 Superman debuted in print (1938). Booze ‘til you’re bulletproof.
Kryptonite
1 oz Midori melon liqueur
1/2 oz Rumple Minze
1/2 oz Goldschlager
1 oz shot Bacardi 151
Pour into shot glass, layer with 151.

Hmmm... Not much going on, so I threw in an extra day... "Custer's Last Stand" might be fitting for Kingsbury Kottage with all that tobasco... And I think Paul Bunyan Day was celebrated early... Like the same Day the Sturgeon got married... ;-)

Things have been busy, but pretty boring I guess... This weekend should be better as we head to Mad-town to see the Jim-Thorpe of Denville play ball. Should be a blast... They play the GB Bullfrogs and its the annual 4th of July fireworks too. It'll be nice to be in Mad-town again...

Then comes the 4th of July weekend which includes the annual Barber's Corn Roast and Fireworks. That's always a good time, plus its a 3 day weekend, which I am in need of. Maybe I'll get out on the water a little bit and fish... What a thought...

On a sad note, The President's mom-in-law passed a way...She lived a long life and was ready, but its still a sad thing... The BBC's thoughts and prayers go out to the First Lady and the President...

Saw the FM this weekend... read at Mass on Sunday... He never said Hi... (Neither did I, but still!)

Oh yeah, I think I missed the SEC-Transportation's birthday... By a week or two... WHOOPS!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Speaking of which, I'll have to call The President to get the annual BBC Night at the Races scheduled... More work...

That's all I have... A lousy update is better than no update, right? Well, don't answer that...

As always, before I go, a few words of wisdom for our junior members...

"When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm beginning to believe it." -- Clarence Darrow

I'm dreading the election... Aren't you?

June 1, 2008 - Jak se maj!!! Happy Sunday!!! What a beautiful day it is too! Coming to you a day early so that I actually get an update in. Sorry I missed last week, but work has been keeping me pretty busy. I've been place at a client doing the normal stuff, but it’s pretty much nose to the grind stone and no time for screwing off. So, I'm earning my keep, but no time for updates. So now I have to do it on MY time... yuck... so, going forward, expect sporadic update...

What else has been going on? Well, let’s start off with the Sturgeon General! He's had a couple pretty busy weeks. First off, my apologies as I missed his birthday in the last update. He turned another page on the 17th... HAPPY Birthday Tony!!!

But even more eventful, the boy got married this weekend!!! This last Friday, which turned out to be a beautiful day despite an iffy weather forecast, he and his beautiful bride pledged their undying love in front of family and friends. It was a beautiful ceremony in a lovely little country church. They and the attendants did a great job and it came off without a hitch... Then the party started! I was lucky (and very honored) to be a part of the wedding party too! I was the sole usher, which put a LOT of pressure on me (HA!) but I don't think I screwed anything up too bad. Tracy was a truly beautiful bride and I am quite tickled to have her in the family... the Sturgeon General didn't look too bad either...I really want to thank them for including me! I had a great time!

The reception was awesome! After a very good meal, the libations and dancing started. I don't care what you say about the Nelson clan, but they sure aren't afraid of the bar or the dance floor! (A few of them were quite "tired" the next day too!) The Jack/Ass team even showed up for the event (of COURSE The President was there too) so it was quite an event! Really a day to remember! So from myself and all of the BBC, CONGRATULATIONS to Tony and Tracy!

Well, my liver is still a little shaky, but let's see what's on the schedule anyway!

1 Latrobe Brewing Co. founded (1939). The “33” on Rolling Rock bottles is an homage to a copywriting typo. Rolling Rock.

2 Vandals sack Rome (477). Rally your tribe and invade a snooty wine bar.
Fall of Rome
2 oz Dry vermouth
1 oz Brandy
Dash Sherry
Dash Rose’s Lime Juice
Orange juice
Pour vermouth and brandy into glass, add lime, fill with orange juice, stir. Splash brandy on top, serve with straw.

3 Cain murdered Abel (Hebrew). Stick your bro with the tab. Top shelf liquor.

4 Socrates’ Birthday (469 BC). Beware of cocktails mixed by enemies.
Poison Cocktail
1 oz vodka
1 oz Parfait D’Amour
1 oz bitter lemon.
Mix the liquor, top with bitter lemon.

5 Pancho Villa’s Birthday (1878). Last words: “Don’t let it end like this. Tell them I said something.” Pancho Villa Tequila.

6 Anniversary of D-Day. Fullbore drunkards FDR and Churchill drive stake in that evil teetotaler Hitler’s heart. Steel Reserve 211.

7 Dean Martin’s Birthday (1917). “I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. They wake up in the morning and that’s the best they’re going to feel all day.” Scotch rocks

(Yeah, I know its too many days, but who knows when I'll post again?)

Latrobe? I love Latrobe! Rock me!!! Then you have Pancho and Dean Martin quotes, both classics... What a great week, but I'm passing on the Poison Cocktail...

Here's a picture from the Jack/Ass team... Late December in Athelstane...

Awesome!

Not much else going on... Been messing around with the Bike some, but a VERY painful cyst on my tailbone's kept me from riding too much. In fact, it kept me from doing much at all on Memorial Day weekend... What a pain in the a$$... Literally!!!

Just read my last update, and it looks like I DID wish the Sturgeon General a Happy Birthday... Oh well...

Little Lynette turned 25 yesterday, so yell out a Happy Birthday to her as well, just in case you were one of the "tired ones" yesterday and forgot... I got treated to a nice lunch with her, her mom and sister and The Mayor. Nice time, and it cured pretty much everything that was ailing me...

Boy, you'd think I'd have more to write about after two weeks... hmm. I'm guessing I forgot some good stuff, but that's typical...

So I guess that's it... But as always, before I go, a few words of wisdom for our junior members...

"When a match has equal partners, then I fear not." - AESCHYLUS,

I'm guessing that's wasted on our junior members...

As Red would say, "Keep your stick on the ice!"
