DEC 10, 2007 DEC 17, 2007 DEC 31, 2007

December 31, 2007 - Jak se maj!!! Happy New Year and welcome to Hangoverville! Hopefully you're all doing much better than I am... But as always, its GREAT to be alive! I just keep telling myself that...

So why the layover in Hangoverville today? Well it was the BBC Tailgater Party yesterday! Let me tell you, the SEC-State and FDA Chair put on when heck of a tailgate party. Got to the stadium lot around 10am and started the festivities. The LGBT President and his family met us and we had a great time. The LGBT President has a great family, which was surprising, and I can't say enough about his lovely wife, but bottom line is... She's obviously a saint!!!  I hope the Andersons had a good time!

We had two pots of chili (one VERY HOT) and hot dogs and some grilled brats from North of 64. Food was GREAT! The Packers followed up with a great game and everyone was happy filing out of Lambeau. More tailgating followed by "Tree Hopping" at the Rollins, Nelsons, and Thompsons made for a long but very fun day! But those last two put me over the top and its going to make for a LONG day today... Kinda new for a New Years Eve, but I'll recover by midnight!!!

Oh, by the way, the FM never delivered The President to the tailgate party, despite REPEATED guarantees to the contrary. He tried to cover his you know what by calling me at the game and claiming he couldn't find us, but I'm pretty sure I could hear Denville Tavern noises in the background... Obviously, no one was surprised by Mr. Dependable...

Had a good, but typical Christmas, at least for the Nelson household... Tons of money spent (literally), and no one happy about the season... Used to it but I'm sure next year will be better... or the same... :-)

New Years should be good... I'll ring in the new year with a oil can and hopefully be up early enough to catch the Badgers roll over Vols... Then its more tree hopping from what I hear... WILL IT NEVER END?!?!?

One note on the work front... Today is my official last day at Nielsen. Nielsen's IT has been outsourced and starting tomorrow I will be an employee of the outsourcing company. So far I don't think my job will change a lot, but there may be some management involved... crap... I'll keep you posted over the weeks to come and let you know how its going.

About the last thing I need right now is to think about drinking, but what the heck, lets see what's on tap...

31 Guinness Brewery was founded (1759). There are 20 different variations of Guinness worldwide. Guinness by the gallon.

1 National Day of Resolutions. Can’t break ‘em unless you make ‘em. Bloody Mary.

2 Drinking Straw patented (1888). Fact: You get drunk faster if you drink through a straw. Mind Eraser.

3 Sergio Leone’s Birthday (1929). Perfect day for a spaghetti western boozefest. Italian vino.

4 Electric blender invented (1910). AKA Annoy the Bartender Day. Blender drinks.

5 Ulysses S. Grant elected president (1872). Fullbore drunkard seizes power.
Presidential Margarita
1 1/2 oz El Presidente Brandy
1 1/2 oz Cointreau
1 1/2 oz Tequila
Juice of 1 Lime
Pour ingredients into a large glass. Add ice and let sit while preparing drinking glass. Rim glass with lime and salt, fill with ice and add a lime slice. Pour contents of large glass into salted glass.

6 Anniversary of Jimmy Carter’s encounter with a UFO (1969). Swears he wasn’t drunk. Crazy Horse Malt Liquor and a bowl of peanuts.

What a strange week... Can you drink a gallon of Guinness? Bloody Marys tomorrow? Sounds good... Then how about blender drinks through a straw? My head hurts...

A little down about the newsletter responses... Not even half submitted an article... Oh well... We'll see what the new year brings...

Did you hear the Sec-State and FDA Chair are partnering again? They're pretty quiet about this stuff, but it sounds like they have a dock to look after...

Got a couple junior member birthdays this week... The AG and FM Jr. celebrate, but I can't remember exactly which day, so if you see 'em, just wish 'em a Happy Birthday and leave it at that...

Did I mention my head hurts? This damn keyboard sure is loud... Well, I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's all I can think of... But before I go a few words of wisdom for our junior members... Today is two for the price of one!

December 17, 2007 - Good morning and Jak se maj!!! I hope everyone is doing well! I'm a little behind schedule here and I have a cold, so things could be better... But they could also be MUCH worse!

Work is still a mess... after 15 years here I'll I'll be working for a new company as of the 1st of the year... I'll probably continue to do the same stuff, but you never know... 2008 could be VERY interesting...

On to good news... The Packers continue their roll thru the NFL... Another good game yesterday... They aren't good enough to just smoke everyone, so it keeps the games interesting but they have enough fortitude to keep the ticker on the win column spinning. Should be a lot of fun in the playoffs... I can't really say I'm a "believer" yet, but I'm buying in more and more each game...

After the game yesterday we had our annual Christmas Caroling patrol. Its always a good time!!! I was a little under the weather with this cold, but we still had fun. A little Apple Pie and Cherry Pie goes a long way in adjusting your attitude!

With the caroling, the fact that Christmas is right around the corner sunk in. Only a week until Christmas Eve! VERY hard to believe, but this happens every year. Takes me a couple weeks to recover from Deer Camp, and then the next thing you know its Christmas. That flies by and then its the deep of winter, which kinda sucks... Hopefully its not the brutal winter everyone is predicting...

Its not Apple or Cherry Pie, but lets see what's in store this week...

17 Wright Brothers take the 1st airplane flight at Kitty Hawk (1903). Soar like a drunken eagle. Grey Goose Vodka.

18 Feast of Our Lady of Solitude (Mexico). Buy the barlot at the end of the bar a drink. Blue Moon Belgium White.

19 Underdog Day. Challenge the fattest bastard in the bar to a drinking contest. Salty Dog.

20 National Sangria Day. Introduced to the U.S. at the 1964 World’s Fair. Sangria.

21 Jack Daniels’ Birthday (1850). Started distilling 13years later. Gentleman Jack.

22 Willpower Day. Test yours at the bar. Well tequila.

23 Van Gogh cut off his ear (1888). He ran out of absinthe, so he got into the turpentine and next thing you know . . . Van Gogh Vodka.

Kind of a weak week... LOL! Well, there's always the 22nd, which just happens to be Dad's as well as "The Boss's" birthday... Hope the FDA Chair brings the bottle when we celebrate...

Here's a little social update from the Jack/Ass team...

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service".
"It's the act of doing things for other people".
Then I heard these terms which reference the word "SERVICE":
Internal Revenue Service
Postal Service
Telephone Service
Civil Service
City & County Public Service
Customer Service
Service Stations
Then I became confused about the word "service". This is not what I thought "service" meant.
So today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to "service" a few of his cows. BAM! It all came into perspective. Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.
I hope you now are as enlightened as I am.

Those two would know!!!

Speaking of The Boys Up the Road, the SEC-State mentioned the 12/30 Tailgate Party we had planned at Deer Camp... I'll be sending out a notice to all involved to see if we can get that arranged... I sure HOPE so!!!

The BBC Newsletter articles are due tonight at midnight... GET THEM In or pay the consequences!!!

Not sure if there will be an update next week...  Don't plan on working, so why would I have an update?  If I don't, I wish you and all yours a safe, prosperous, and Merry Christmas!!!

Well, its getting late, so back to work... But before I go a few words of wisdom for our junior members...

"It was a woman who drove me to drink and I never got the chance to thank her." - W.C. Fields

I'll remember to thank her when I get home...

As Red would say, "Keep your stick on the ice!"

December 10, 2007 - Jak se maj!!! Howdy folks! I hope everyone is doing great... Sorry about the update last week, but it was CRAZY around here... Plus I was a little "tired" to boot, so there was no way I could get an update out... but, nice buck by Mr. Tom, huh? Kinda makes my little doe seem like nothing... But she's good eating, no matter what the FM says...

Well, I survived the trip to Dallas... barely... It didn't go as well as I had hoped... Got there JUST in time to catch the Packer game on Thursday. Despite the lights blinking a few times and going out once altogether, I had a decent time watching the game there at a local TGI Fridays. The crowd was bearable despite a couple idiots (every crowd has them) and it turned out kinda the way I expected... Work-wise it was awful. Friday was a 12 hour day and Saturday I went from 7am to 10pm... and I didn't get everything done! Yuck... At least the trip home was uneventful despite all the snow we had here...

When I got home I was informed I was taking the family out for my beautiful bride's birthday... I get nothing (literally) and she gets a meal with the whole crew, paid by me, at the priciest place she thinks she can get away with... But, I'll admit we had a good time... Hence my being tired the next day... :-)

Makes me think of this advertisement Jack/Ass sent me... Its older, and I  think I've posted it before, but it always cracks me up... Its the "Ad of the Year"!

AddoftheYear.jpg (44969 bytes)

More work news when I got back... definitely some changes coming here... It looks like my badge won't read "Nielsen" anymore after the new year... But of all the possibilities, I think I got the best option... more on that later once things firm up...

Packers, despite their throwing the game in Dallas (plenty of those theories going around), sure are looking good. Yesterday's romp of the Raiders wasn't pretty, especially the first half, but you can't argue the result... Too Bad the Liuns didn't choke that game away to the Cowgirls... That would have made it interesting...

Badger Hockey... blah...

Badger Roundball... Marquette looked REALLY good if you ask me... still disappointed to lose in the Kohl Center, but you have to give the "Warriors" credit...

Denville roundball... Big win over perennial power Seymour when I was in Dallas... not so big now that Seymour is 0-3, but still... Chief Inspector had a big game on Friday hitting three "threes" in mop up duty... Had a hard time fitting his head in the door...

Been really on a roll with the libations lately... lets see what's in store this week...

10 Nobel Prize Awards Day. Drink away your disappointment.
Mad Scientist
1 1/3 oz blueberry schnapps
1 1/3 oz raspberry schnapps
1/4 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
1/4 oz grenadine
Mix the schnapps in a shot glass, slowly top with grenadine. Dribble a small amount of Bailey’s on top.

11 Jerry Lee Lewis secretly married his 13-year-old third cousin Myra Gale Brown. When Jerry breaks the rules, he breaks all the rules.
Great Balls of Fire
2 oz Goldschlager
1/2 oz Hotdamn 100 Proof
1/2 oz Aftershock
Mix and shoot.

12 Frank Sinatra’s Birthday (1915). “I’m for anything that gets you through the night—be it prayer, tranquilizers or a bottle of Jack Daniels.” Jack rocks.

13 St. Lucy’s Day. Patron saint of writers, people with eye trouble and lamplighters. Drink yourself blind and in the morning you shall be magically healed.

14 The “Shot Heard Around the World” is fired in an exchange between American Revolutionaries and British soldiers. Celebrate with the #1 shot drank around world. Jagermeister.

15 Walt Disney’s head cryogenically frozen (1966). Here’s to hoping he reanimates in time to kick Eisner’s ass. Frozen Daiquiri.

16 Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party (1773). They tossed the tea and stole the rum. Long Island Iced Tea.

Jager on Friday and Long Island Ice Tea on Sunday... BOTH of those can "Mess You Up"!!!

Sent out the BBC Newsletter notice today to the troops... only gave them a week to get their articles in... they'd just wait until the deadline anyway, so why postpone it... FDA Chair reminded me of the BBC Tailgate event coming up on 12/30... I think I'm going to the game with him... Everyone else, if you FORGOT about it, mark your calendars!!!  More details to come...

Missed a birthday from last week... Little Laura Larsen (Bush) turned another page out west... send her your best!

Well, back to work... But before I go a few words of wisdom for our junior members...

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." -- George Bernard Shaw

A nickel to the first junior member that can explain that... intelligently...

As Red would say, "Keep your stick on the ice!"
