22, 2010 - Jak se maj!!! Howdy folks! A good morning to each of you! My Monday has certainly started out better than last Monday, but not by a huge margin. I had an 8am dentist appointment. Yuck... Plus I have a cracked filling to remedy, so I get to go back in two weeks to have that fixed. Could be worse though...
Plumbing update... Last Monday I had a backed up shower as I wrote my update. Well, by noon it was fixed. The pipe that comes from the shower, kitchen sink, and bath sink and goes to the main was plugged, so water from the kitchen and bath had no place to go other than into the shower. Luckily, there is a nice spot with a turn off that he removed and twirled and we were good to go. 15 minutes tops. Probably $100, but it had to be done. The real benefit is that I could watch him and now I know how to fix it myself next time... I just need the right tools. Luckily, The President reports that he has them!
Friday night we held our annual Fish Camp meeting at the Nelson shop and it went very well. We had some great snacks, including The President's world famous popcorn, a respectable cocktail hour, and lots of beer. The meeting went well and we are set to head to Kingsbury Kottage for Opening weekend! We'll be heading up Friday before the opener (4/30) and staying until Monday. The Sausage Stuffer will be bringing that new boat of his. The menu is set, pretty much just like last year, but with the addition of biscuits and gravy for one of the breakfasts. We should be "good to go" and Walter should be worried!
Lent started last week with Ash Wednesday. This year it will be a "don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing" theme... We'll see how that works out... I like Lent... It's a good time for reflection, focus, and reminding oneself of what is important in life... Our linked parishes are having "Stations of the Cross" after each Mass this season as well, and that is a very powerful reminder of what we should be focusing on in life...
New car update... No check from the insurance company, so I called them last week and they finally got back to me. The check was returned because they sent it to my street address. I TOLD THEM they had to send it to my PO Box otherwise the useless post office in Denville would send it back! But they did it anyway... So hopefully it shows up soon. But since the boy hasn't shown much interest in looking for a car, I'm not sure it matters. Hopefully once we have the cash in hand he ups the priority of that task... Not really looking forward to it...
Making some progress on my latest motorcycle project. I have the seat off and I am working on some rips and cuts. I used some "Mighty Mendit" to glue up one of the seams that the stitches were ripping on and that actually seems to be holding. Then there were a couple rips/cuts/gouges in the corners of the seat and it looked like a previous owner had put something on it that failed. I tried the Mighty Mendit and that failed too... So what to use? Gorilla Glue!!! It seems to have worked quite well, but it looks pretty horrible. Gorilla glue holds well, but looks all yellow and yucky when it cures. So I ordered a vinyl repair kit and
I have high hopes to use that to cover up the glue. We... Shall... See...
Just in case that fails, I found a place that will sell a replacement seat cover for $100. Pretty reasonable if you ask me, so if it looks like crap,
and I still get a lot of use out of the bike this summer, maybe I'll splurge and get one. With all this work on the bike, I've been getting a serious itch to get out on it, so I tried to
cure a bit of that by spending some time on the internet planning out some possible trips on the bike. Mostly day trips cause I doubt I'll have anyone on the back to really travel with, but still neat stuff I'd like to see in the area that would be cool to go see on the bike. Probably a lot of wishful thinking, but it was fun to do anyway...
The #3 Wisconsin Hockey Badgers split with #4 St. Cloud State this weekend, so it's hard to say where they will be ranked, but it's doubtful they will take the WCHA regular season now. We will see... Haven't spent much time watching the Olympics... Well, I actually haven't spent ANY time watching them. I had high hopes yesterday to watch a little hockey and curling, but I never got any further than flipping through the channels to catch the hockey score. Well, the USA beat Canada, so we got that going for us... Maybe I'll catch some this week...
Anybody notice the smell of "spring" in the air on Friday? The sun seemed extra warm and you could just get a hint of that spring smell. Awesome... Yeah, we'll get more cold and snow, but at least you can kinda see that light at the end of the tunnel... Sweet!
So, what is on the menu to keep us Fat and Happy?
|
Bacon
Cheese Turtleburgers Ground
beef pattie topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave
shell with hot dog head, legs and tail. |
That looks AWESOME!!! Maybe a Fish Camp menu addition!
Once we're fat and happy, what libations will make us not care?

Old English Malt Liquor.
Hmm... Not a one that spurs my interest... Maybe that Terminator, but
that sounds dangerous...
No word back from our friend Tom Anderson, so I assume that he has safely arrived in Swaziland... I hope he is doing well and enjoys the water...
Looks like it will be a pretty busy week... Lots of stuff going on at work including a day trip up to Marinette, which will be cool... On the personal side, I'm involved with our linked
parish's efforts to come up with a cohesive web presence for the linkage while maintaining individuality on each of the parishes and
school. A couple meetings this week and then (hopefully) into the meat of it. I hope it goes well...
Zumbo celebrates another birthday this week, so if you see the old guy, wish him a Happy Birthday. Saturday is the big day, so I'm sure he'll be out on the town! Happy Birthday Steve!
To kinda wrap things up, here is one I got from my lovely eldest sister... Kinda PG-13, but hopefully you can handle it...
TWENTY DOLLARS
On their wedding night, the young bride
Approached her new husband and asked
For $20.00 for their first lovemaking
Encounter. In his highly aroused state,
Her husband readily agreed.
This scenario was repeated each time they made
Love, for more than 30 years, with him thinking that it was a
Cute way for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that
She needed.
Arriving home around noon one day, she was
Surprised to find her husband in a very drunken state.
During the next few minutes, he explained that
His employer was going through a process of corporate
Downsizing, and he had been let go.
It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he'd be able to find
Another position that paid anywhere near what
He'd been earning, and therefore, they were financially ruined.
Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which
Showed more than thirty years of steady deposits and interest totaling
Nearly $1 million. Then she showed him certificates of deposits issued
By the bank which were worth over $2 million,
And informed him that they
Were one of the largest depositors in the bank.
She explained that for more than
Three decades she had 'charged' him for sex,
These holdings had multiplied and these were the
Results of her savings and investments.
Faced with evidence of cash and investments
Worth over $3 million, her husband was so astounded he could
Barely speak, but finally he found his voice and blurted out,
'If I'd had any idea what you were doing,
I would have given you all my business!'
That's when she shot him.
You know, sometimes, men just don't know when
To keep their mouths shut
That is a fact!!!
That's it for today! But before I go, a few words of wisdom for our junior membership...

Feb.
15, 2010 - Jak se maj!!! Good morning everyone! Well, I hope everyone else is having a better morning that I am. My lovely bride woke me up at 5am this morning, and it’s NEVER a good thing when she wakes "me" up. Turns out we have some plumbing issues... Our bathtub is backed up. It may have to do with some old soup my lovely bride found in the freezer that got sent down the disposal. Being in an old house, I don't know what they were thinking with the plumbing, but that has FAIL written all over it. So I'm home waiting for the plumber... Oh well...
Sorry about the lack of an update last week, but there were a couple contributing factors. As I mentioned the week before, I had to go to Milwaukee
on Monday for work, so I had no time for an update. I had kinda thought of doing the update on Sunday, but I wasn't feeling too well... Why you ask? Well, our families threw us a surprise anniversary party, and we partied hard!
Yes, I have been married to my lovely bride for 25 years, officially last Monday. We didn't plan anything other than maybe to go out to eat. But it was strangely quiet... The boys told their mother they would come over with their girlfriends Saturday night for "game night". Yeah, my boys offering to come over and play games with their mother. I thought that "perhaps" something was up. They were coming over at 5pm, so I figured I'd go to church with my bride and her mother
at 4pm and see what happens. I expected something right after church, but we got home and nothing... Hmmm... So we played some cards and then had some food, and I was pretty much thinking that was it... Then the doorbell rang.
Outside, assembled on our front lawn and sidewalk was quite a crowd. Then the fireworks and sirens and bells and singing started, and of course, my lovely bride darted back inside the house! They finished up and then piled into our house, and I thought my bride would have a heart attack! It was packed!!! But we were soon informed that the party was actually over at the Legion hall so after a quick drink, we all headed over there. Quite a party it was! After everyone assembled and had a drink or two, the main event began. We were playing the Newlywed Game! WHAT A RIOT! The contestants were us of course, Kay's brother and sister-in-law, the SEC-Transportation and his bride, my cousin Gutz and Sue Ellen, and none other than The President and First Lady.
So the boys went downstairs and the ladies to the kitchen to set our "backstage" answers... Then we assembled and the game was on, with the FDA Chairman as MC, and it was hilarious. It was really quite a
unique mix of couples and that made it even better. We laughed and laughed and laughed and everyone had a great time. My memory isn't very clear, but I'm pretty sure despite getting almost zero answers right (Zero kisses
for me at least... Kripes, even The President got some smooches!), we still won the game. We even received a prize, which was very nice indeed, but I doubt I'll ever see it on my beautiful bride. From there the party got a little fuzzy. Too much beer, wine,
champaign and Vermox certainly contributed to that state. Somewhere along the line my bride headed up to Rookies so I followed her there, but by that time she didn't notice and I was "getting tired", so I walked home. Probably a good thing...
But it was really a great party. With the way the timeline played out, I was surprised and Kay was absolutely shocked. We both had a really great time! My bride couldn’t stop talking about it for days, so it really really made her day, week, month, and year. Maybe even made the last 25 worth while... :-) Pretty neat that the party was on my brother Chris's birthday too... Well, at least part of it was... We really want to thank our families and friends for throwing such a great party, as well as being there for us over the last 25 years. We couldn't have done it without you! But next time, Vermox will NOT be allowed at the event!
So with the good, there is also the bad... The week before on Tuesday morning, the younger boy called me at work and said "You're not going to believe this"... Yes, he crashed another car... So I headed to the scene and it was only a mile or two down the road from where the last accident
occured. An older lady was coming out of the Robinsonville Chapel after Mass and slid through the stop sign right in front of Jake. Luckily, everyone was fine, but the cars were totaled, but the ladies insurance company has beer "pretty" good. No issues other than they only allow you a rental for 5 days. We got it for 6, but still, since we didn't get a check yet, it leaves us one car short... Not fun... So we're back to car shopping, which is no small endeavor with the boy and his mother... We'll keep you posted on the progress...
Pretty busy otherwise... Got my motorcycle project completed and another one started. The first one, fixing the fairing, turned out "OK"... The welding part turned out really good I think, but the painting part turned out really bad... I got touch up paint in a small jar with a brush and I think it was just too big an area to do. The area turned out a dark red/purple where it was supposed to be a
"wineberry", which looks maroon-ish to me... But the area is really low on the bike so it looks a little like a shadow and not too bad. Put it back on the bike yesterday so as far as I'm concerned it’s done... So I put the battery charger on the bike for the day and took off the seat to start another project. One of the seams is tearing so I got some of that "As Seen on TV Wonder Fabric Glue" stuff and I'm trying that... If that doesn't work I may take it completely apart and see if someone can sew it back up. I wish I could use JB Weld on it...
Had another project that turned out pretty good as well. Our lovely Mayor needed a cross for a Religious Ed service, something big that all the kids could put a nail into. At our church, we have an "old rugged cross" we use during Lent, and I thought that would be perfect. So, I volunteered Greg from church to find me some old barn wood and he came through with flying colors. He found some really solid but very weathered stock and I cut it to size and fastened it up. I took a steel brush to it to clean it up and get rid of the old paint and crap (literally), and that really made it look good. I dropped it off and the Mayor reported that it worked great and that it will be up for the remainder of Lent. Sweet...
I finally hung the Raise You a Dime picture... I put it right below dad's
military picture in the shop... What do you think?
Speaking of pictures, my lovely blonde sister stopped over with some more pictures yesterday. She had the graduation pictures from my brothers so I'm going to
hang those in the shop too, along with a picture of dad's army company from over in Hawaii. Then she also had some snapshots of various stuff, but
two really stood out. They are from my "youth" and it's shocking how much it looks just like Jake. Poor kid... I warned his girlfriend, which I thought was only fair... :-)
I hear The President has been up north... Here's a picture from his tramp through the woods:
It should be captioned: "Bob the Pied Piper"...
Last Thursday was my brother Chuck's birthday. I hope you had a beer on him... I did... It was
my first beer since "the party"... It actually tasted pretty good!
Another commemoration... Ma Nelson left us 4 years ago on the 9th. Doesn't seem that long... Probably cause she's still with us every day. Think she and dad, the boys and Mr. Rick would have enjoyed the party? Actually, I'm pretty sure they were with us and did!
Except they probably felt better the next day...
Not much in the way of sports going on with the NFL being done... The Super Bowl was good but I was a little too hungover to really enjoy it. Glad the Saints won though... Badger hockey team is doing well. Watched both games this weekend on TV and they were very entertaining, but Friday's
game ticked me off. It was a close game with no scoring into the 2nd period. MSU scored and then I had to go do something quick... By the time I got back, the Badgers had scored THREE times and I missed them all. Oh well, as long as they won... Olympics are started though and I hope to catch some of that... Especially the hockey, sledding sports, and curling.
There's been no lack of food and drink lately, so let's get on with it. Here's why you might be fat:
Meta
Meat Cake
Four
types of sausage, bratwurst, chorizo, ground beef, ground pork, diced ham,
Canadian bacon, pepperoni, hickory smoked bacon, hot cappy, queso blanco,
provolone and sharp cheddar, wrapped in sausage, bacon and cheese ball dough and
baked. Then decorated with American, cheddar squeeze cheese and bacon strips.
We can't eat without a good drink... Here's the schedule:
15 National Sea Monkey Day. I am not making this up.
Brass Monkey.
16 The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was formed from the The Jolly Corks, a drinking society. If my uncle’s behavior is any indication, the only thing they changed was the name.
Jagermeister.
17 Feast of Fools (Ancient Rome). Take your friends to dinner, then pretend to have forgotten your wallet.
Expensive wine.
18 Spenta Armaiti (Zoroastrian). Ancient hippy festival. Jug wine.
19 Lee Marvin’s Birthday (1924). Drink like a man, goddamn you. Bourbon from the bottle.
20 Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo Day. At high noon everyone yells “Hoodie-Hoo” to chase away winter and usher in spring.
Crazy Swede
1 oz ouzo
1 oz vodka
1 tblsp cinnamon schnapps
Shake with ice, strain, shout Hoodie-Hoo and shoot.
21 Polaroid Camera introduced (1947). Drunken foolishness now readily transferable to bar walls.
Shot of Beam while flipping the bird.
Nothing too special there, other than the Polaroid being introduced. That was a great invention! Since I missed last week, I went back to check out what was on the schedule. Here is what was posted for the day AFTER the anniversary party:
7 National Hangover Awareness Day. Some of us ‘celebrate’ this ‘holiday’ every morning.
Hair of the Dog
1/2 oz. tequila
1/2 oz. whiskey
1/4 oz. Tabasco Sauce
1/4 oz. salt
Pour Tabasco, tequila and whiskey into a shot glass. Lay salt on top.
How appropriate was that? I doubt it would have helped, but it would have been worth a shot... No pun intended... :-)
So, what's coming up? Well, Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, so Lent is upon us. Not sure what I will be doing exactly, but it will be something like last year. Nothing "absolute", just more focus on limiting many things...
Friday we have our annual Fish Camp meeting, so the boys will be assembled in the Nelson shop and we'll discuss our plans for camp and how we're going to finally land old Walter! Other than the endless discussion on strategy, we'll set our schedule, menus, task lists, and anything else we can come up with. Should be a good time...
Lastly, our good friend Tom Anderson, 50% of the Jack/Ass team that we deer hunt with, will be heading to South Africa Wednesday. His company is sponsoring him as part of their Good Health Fellows program where they "help strengthen the ability of health care providers in developing countries to care for their patients". He will be in Swaziland for the next 6 months where he "will be evaluating and redesigning their distribution system for HIV prevention and water purity products working from their country office in Mbabane". Very noble endeavor, and quite an adventure as well! You can check out information at their websites at
http://www.psi.org and http://globalhealthfellows.com. He will be having journals there that I will try to check on and keep you posted. Best of luck and Godspeed to Tom!!!
Happy
belated Valentines Day! If you were at the party, you know exactly what my
lovely bride and I got each other... Same as last year... :-)
There, I think that's everything... Probably not, but oh well... My plumbing isn't fixed yet
either... Oh well, patience young Jedi... Patience! Before I sign off, a few words of wisdom for our junior membership...

1, 2010 - Jak se maj!!! Happy Monday afternoon everyone! Busy day and I'm just getting started on the update. Whew! Work is going well so the time flies by. Nice to have plenty of work, that's for sure. Spent some time up in Marinette last week and that led to some new business, so that's pretty cool. Nice when what you plan works out and leads to more opportunities...
Had a good weekend! Headed out Sunday morning to Zumbo's ranch to chase bunnies. Beautiful day. Temps were probably in the low to mid teens, so it was plenty warm enough. The snow was pretty good and you could walk on top of it most the time, but occasionally you'd break through, and that makes for hard walking. We saw lots of bunny sign, but no bunnies. The sign all seemed to be pretty old too, but since it's been a few weeks since we got snow, it’s hard to tell for sure. Despite the bunnies not cooperating, it sure was a nice walk out in the woods... Thanks Zumbo!
I tried to print out The President's mother's copy of the newsletter, but the black
ink in my printer was running low, but luckily Zumbo had an extra copy there, so I grabbed it and delivered it to The President's mansion. Unfortunately, no one was home, so I left it on the counter with a note. I sure hope it gets there!
Oh yeah, Zumbo also mentioned that he got his turkey permit late last week, so hopefully I get mine soon as well... Mentioned a possible turkey seminar, which made me think
that we need to get the Fish Camp meeting scheduled! I'll try to get an inquiry out there as to when that might be possible based on schedules...
Watched the Pro Bowl last night. Well, I watched most of it. I caught the entire first half, and then most of the second half. Not bad, but it's pretty
hard not to see a lot of those guys are going 1/3 speed or less. Kinda made me think of All Star Wrestling. But I think the QB's and the WR's were going full bore, and that led to pretty fun offensive minded play. A-Rod did well, but his two backup QB's, McNabb especially, were less than stellar... One more game and the NFL season is over. Sad...
Badger hockey team is doing really well. They split with UMD this weekend, but overall are ranked #2 in the country. Fun team to watch too...
Ordered my boat registration last week. I got a notice via email and I was able to order it online. How cool is that?
My bike project is going pretty good. I got everything "welded", sanded down, and primed. Now I'm waiting for my overpriced touchup paint to arrive in the mail and I can hopefully finish it up. I'm pretty good with the welding and sanding, but I kinda suck at the painting part, so we'll see how it turns out. Luckily, it’s a 27 year old bike, so who really cares. But I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to these things, so unfortunately, if it’s bad, I'll notice...
Had a GREAT meal last Thursday at Red Lobster for sis's birthday. I tell ya', you can't go wrong there...
Well, one half of the Jack/Ass team must be getting ready to get overseas, cause he's emptying his email box out. Good stuff too... He's what he
sent.
First off, a new dictionary item:
Favred (FAHrv'd), v. To bring one's team to the brink of victory through brilliant maneuver, but to lose by committing a colossal unforced blunder. Example: The Democrats favred their chances for health care reform when they lost the Massachusetts Senate seat.
Next, a little safety reminder (Click on it. You'll need a PDF Reader to view):
Finally, a new T-Shirt to remember the 2009 NFL Playoffs:
You can tell Brent Fart has lost all the respect he had based on the creativity of the insults he's getting...
Hey, got my "Raise You a Dime" print in the mail. It's great! I went to Goodwill and found what "I think" is the perfect frame for it. Its "vintage" 1967 if you ask me. I didn't get it hung up in the shop yet, but I figured out the perfect spot for it. Stop over and check it out some time!
So, why are you fat?
The Double Coronary Burger
A burger topped with five slices of bacon, four slices of cheese, two fried eggs, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
Yep, that would explain it!
On tap this week:
1 Boris Yeltsin’s Birthday (1931). Doing multiple shots of vodka on stage was one of his populist campaign tricks.
Chilled double Stolis.
2 Groundhog Day. If he sees his shadow, get loaded. If he doesn’t see his shadow, get loaded.
The Shadow Knows
1 oz black sambuca
1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
1/2 oz Bacardi 151 Rum
Layer Bailey’s over sambuca. Top with Bacardi.
3 Heroes Day (Mozambique). “Claret is the liquor for boys; port for men; but he who aspires to be a hero must drink brandy.”—Samuel Johnson.
Heroic amounts of brandy.
4 The Bacardi Distillery is founded in Cuba (1862). There’s a bat on the label because bats would pass out in the distillery’s vats.
Bacardi and Coke.
5 Bob Marley Day (Jamaica). Touch base with your weedhead buddies. Red Stripe.
6 Babe Ruth’s Birthday (1895). Contrary to popular belief, he wasn’t really pointing to where he was going to hit the ball. He was just trying to get a beer vendor's attention.
Overpriced crappy beer in a plastic cup.
7 National Hangover Awareness Day. Some of us ‘celebrate’ this ‘holiday’ every morning.
Hair of the Dog
1/2 oz. tequila
1/2 oz. whiskey
1/4 oz. Tabasco Sauce
1/4 oz. salt
Pour Tabasco, tequila and whiskey into a shot glass. Lay salt on top.
Hair of the Dog??? Are you kidding me? That ain't hair, that's death in a shot glass!
Another big week coming up. Work is busy, and Saturday would have been my brother Chris's birthday. So have a beer on him...
Actually, I guess it's not that big a week... There's the Superbowl too, but not much else going on... Big day next
Monday (hard to believe) but I might be out of town, so don't be surprised if there's no update...
and that I'm hungover...
After last week's epic update, I guess you were due for a letdown... Anyway, before I sign off, a few words of wisdom for our junior membership...
